Open House and Facility Tour
September 10, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am
Over the last few years, much attention has been focused on the quality of water in Spring Creek, Swatara Creek, the Susquehanna River, and the Chesapeake Bay. The Derry Township Municipal Authority’s Clearwater Road wastewater treatment facility plays a vital role in the protection and enhancement of these valuable water resources by collecting and treating the wastewater produced in the homes and businesses of our community.
On Saturday, September 10, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., you will have the opportunity to learn “what happens after I flush?” DTMA is pleased to invite you to an open house where you will see and learn about the sophisticated equipment and operations that convert sewage into an exceptionally high quality effluent that exceeds all regulatory requirements, and is returned to the Swatara Creek. You will also be able to see how the treatment residuals (sludge) are processed to produce biogas, which is used to generate electricity and heat the buildings, and ultimately results in the production of a fertilizer product called “SteadiGro” that is sold to local farmers.
DTMA staff will provide guided tours and answer questions. Light refreshments will be served.
