on In Your Neighborhood, Sewer Cleaning by DTMA

Sanitary Sewer Line Cleaning is an important part of maintaining the system.  This process helps to prevent blockages and also accurately assess the condition of the system via CCTV Equipment.  This helps us locate areas in need of repair to keep the system running smoothly and limit interruptions in service.

NOVEMBER and DECEMBER work to be performed:

  • Starting at Ridge Road working east toward Cocoa Avenue:
  1. Cedar Avenue
  2. Maple Avenue
  3. All side streets in this vicinity

Early DECEMBER through January 2022 work to be performed:

  • East of Cocoa Avenue to just across Chocolate Avenue
  1. East Areba to Meadow Lane
  2. Bahia to Meadow Lane
  3. All side streets in this vicinity

RESIDENTS MAY EXPERIENCE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING WHILE THE CLEANING IS TAKING PLACE DUE TO THE STEPS NECESSARY IN THIS PROCESS.

  • If you see our DTMA Cleaning Equipment, consisting of a Tanker Truck that has “VACTOR” on the side, in close proximity of your property, it would be advisable to close your toilet seats. On rare occasion, some water may spray up during the cleaning process.
  • “THE SOUND OF AIR GOING THROUGH YOUR DRAIN PIPES” Somewhat of a rattling sound, but not a cause for alarm.
  • “A SLIGHT SEWER SMELL” This is caused by the suction/siphoning of your fixture drain traps by our cleaning equipment. This doesn’t happen often, but in the event that it does, briefly run fresh water into each fixture to refill the drain traps to stop the smell.

 

**These side effects should only be experienced during the cleaning phase. The CCTV
  Work should not impact the system in any way.  CCTV work is performed by our Staff
  in a Box Truck with our DTMA Logos displayed on the side.

How to Identify DTMA Employees

Please be alert when someone comes to your door asking for entry to your property. From time to time, individuals may pose as a utility worker to gain access.

Customers should verify the identification of all utility employees coming to their homes. DTMA employees drive distinctively marked vehicles with municipal license plates, wear uniforms and always carry a DTMA photo identification card.

Call (717) 566-3237 Ext. 303 when reporting suspicious activities involving DTMA employees or impersonators. Anyone fearing for their safety should call 911.
